The Northeast's upside potential
Brazil belongs to the group of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China), which according to a recent Goldman Sachs investment study are rapidly developing and which will eclipse in the next 30 years the richest countries in the world. Within Brazil, the biggest regional upside potential shows the Northeast, where 27% of the Brazilian population only represent 12% of the national GDP. Professional services are lacking in most areas, and more and more European are settle down to close this gap and earn their living.
Improvement in tourism infrastructure
Within the Fortaleza region, the investments are booming and heavy private and governmental investments are made in tourism. In general, tourism is underdeveloped in Brazil and it is one of the few big and stable country that does not yet have a good tourist infrastructure. During the past years, huge investments have been granted to the Northeast area in order to further improve the infrastructure and grow tourism.
Economy
The local economy is booming. Opening the newspapers, the timing seems to be of gold diggers: solid balance of payments due to increasing commodity exports, solid internal demand increase (GDP growth around 5% a year) and a credit boom (for the first time in history, Brazilians have access to consumer credits to finance cars, apartments and other). Insiders predict that this is just the start of a long phase with solid growth.
Proximity Europe/North America
Fortaleza is one of the prime spots for tourism in Brazil. It is the region with the best climate (sunny, but not too hot due to constant wind), fantastic desert beaches and friendly people (different than Rio or Salvador). Note that it is the closest Brazilian destination by plane from Europe. Direct flights will increase, as soon as the tourism infrastructure is there. The airport was built in 2004 and could easily cope with a big increase in flight travel
